First day of the season for snowboarding… plus (bonus video of me snowboarding)

Untitled1

I got some snowboarding in this week for the first time in a long time and man was it ever amazing.

For the people who don’t know… I actually took some time off from snowboarding to get some things in life sorted out.

It was well worth it, but I’m rusty as ever.

I plan on getting better at park riding this year because I’ll be spending the majority of my time in Ontario where there isn’t mountains… just mostly park riding.

So as long as I’m here in Ontario, I might as well try and take my skills in that discipline to the next level.

Then around march-ish, i’ll be heading to Peru where I’ll be making that my new home for several months. I plan on doing some surfing, adventures, soak in the culture and just live.

Then after all of that, i’ll be heading back to Whistler, BC for snowboarding and to live in the mountains for a season…

… Basically a busy year worth of travels.

I’m able to do this and bounce around where ever I want because my income is all internet based.  As long as I have an internet connection I can earn money online.

But yeah…. I grabbed some of my best snowboarding footage over the last couple of years and threw it in an edit.  I wish I had some more footage of myself… but I don’t.

I guess when I move back there in the fall I’ll have to make up for it.

Enjoy the video.

It’s nothing too amazing… but you’ll get a taste of what snowboarding is like in the mountains and a little peak into my world.

Anyways…

Do you snowboard or ski at all? Have you ever tried it, any crazy stories?

Let me know… I love snowboarding I’ve been doing since I was 3, I would love to hear it.

Also if you have any videos of yourself skiing, leave it in the comment section below, my viewers and I would love to see it!

          How dare you say that…

I actually have a video of myself in Whistler Village watching the hockey game. I’m completely freaking out, you might find it a little funny.

That’s one thing Canadians care about is their hockey… we don’t care about any other sport in the Olympics except for hockey. We need to win it…. if we don’t… it’s like embarrassing.

What an incredible life you have. I envy the courage you had to set it all up the way you did.

I enjoyed the video. What were you holding out in front of you? Boy, that was an incredible ride.

      Hey Addie,

I always tell people that you should be putting pieces in place in order to start living your dream lifestyle…. because if your not then you’re building someone else’s dreams.

That’s what I did, it started with an idea of the lifestyle I wanted to live then I started putting the pieces together to live it. I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy… but it was well worth it. But the truth is, nothing good in life comes easy, everything takes work.

I had a GoPro attached to a ski pole, it was actually hard to ride with because it had a lot of weight to it, so I had to re-adjust my balance points. Plus my arm would get extremely tired holding it.. haha.

Thanks for the comment, and thanks for the compliment.

Wow! You’ve inspired me to finally have another go at snow boarding as an adult!! Do you have any tips for a wake boarder? Love your blog ;) !

You should totally snowboard! It’s the best!

Hmm tip’s for a wake boarder… First things first, I would say is get butt pads… I think it’s essential for anyone learning how to snowboard because you will be falling on your ass.

With me personally, whenever I show someone how to snowboard… I’ll spend 20 minutes really explaining to them how the mechanics ofs snowboarding works. Then when we finish going over the theory part… then I’ll take the person up and show them 1on1, etc.

It’s really important to understand how you always need to have an edge up, how turning works, how stopping works, etc. If you can understand the principles then it will make it easier to apply them when you start snowboarding. I think most people when teaching don’t focus on that.

So when you try snowboarding again, just try and find someone who is actually knowledgeable… and get a real good understanding of the principles of snowboarding before you actually strap in and go down the hill.

It will save your body… I promise.

By the way, I love your blog as well.

The post on Bali, you’re photos are awesome… I plan on going there at some point in the next couple of years. I have lots of friends from Canada visit there every year for surfing.

Oh thank you so much! Your tips make complete sense! And yes butt pads sound like a must, especially if there’s no water to break my fall! Hopefully I can find an instructor as clear as you are! I want to travel to Canada next year so I think that will be the best time to learn :)
Thank you so much I am so glad you like it! I am still finding my feet with it, but love to write so I’ll just keep chipping away at it when I can :) Yes you definitely have to visit Bali- it really surprised me! And surfing? That’s amazing!

Wow, great video! I have skied but snowboarding scares me slightly as you don’t have the poles for support!
Have a blast in Peru, look forward to reading about your travels! (:

Thanks boss, yeah Peru excites me but also scares me.. because I’m going to go on an Ayahuasca retreat. I don’t talk about it much, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to do over the last couple of years… I definitely will be talking about it and making a video about it, etc.

Yeah B.C, is amazing, there’s soo many amazing places… it’s why I have a hard time settling down.

      Thanks for the comment.

Happy New Years Joe! Thanks for sharing that clip. It’s been about seven years since I snowboarded at Whistler. That’s such a beautiful place. Your post and video inspire me to dust off my board and hit the Alps this winter. It’s been too long since I last snowboarded. Thanks also for following my blog. I hope it provides you as much enjoyable as yours does to me.

I haven’t been skiing or snowboarding — no snow here in Florida to try it! — but I have been wakeboarding. The first time I went, I had no idea my legs were so strong. It takes a TON of core strength to pull it off. I haven’t been in a long time, but if you ever get a chance, you should definitely try it.

Thanks for visiting my site. Tried snowboarding but can’t seem to get the hang of it. My attempts did provide my grandson with more than a few laughs.

Hey Joe, awesome footage! :) I’ve skied Whistler/Blackcomb and love it, but mainly grew up in the Rockies (Sunshine, Fortress, etc.). Best skiing I’ve done so far though, in North America, has been Fernie, B.C. Triple black diamond runs mostly and amazing amounts of powder – it just bursts in front of you (light as a feather) and if you wipe out its like falling into a cloud. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures!
